Finding Myself Surrounded by Beauty

Wind Sculpture in the Zion Canyon, Utah.

“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.”

Thomas Merton

Art in the form of red rocks, mountains, and Wind Sculptures.  This is what surrounds me when am at work.  Like the people who drive up to the curb, roll down their car windows, and gaze at the wind sculptures, I find myself in awe…and sometimes even lose myself in the beauty and grace of the movement, the colors, the shapes, and the wind.

Double Spinner in Zion Canyon

Worthington Gallery in Springdale, Utah is open from 9 am – 9 pm and throughout the day people come by to stroll through the front yard and gardens, which have been landscaped with over 100 wind sculptures.    They sit, take photos, and even stop to eat their lunch.

People buy them – sometimes one, sometimes 2, 3, or 4 at a time.  On Sunday I sold a Sub-Huge Wind Dancer sculpture that will be shipped to Montana, where it will find its new home with three other wind sculptures on the side of a mountain.  Yesterday I sold one that will be shipped to Texas as part of a new garden landscaping project – a couple’s first Wind Sculpture purchase.  It was fun to work with them on finding the right one and making the decision to buy.  The husband was hesitant, but his wife kept nudging him, encouraging him, and assuring that he’s worthy of the purchase.  They wandered through the yard for about an hour before he finally believed his wife and had me ship them a wind sculpture.

Red rocks, mountains, and Wind Sculptures…helping me and others to find ourselves here in Zion.
